Friday, October 1st, Rick's Saddle/Peak via The Barren Ridge/Exploratory- Moderately Strenuous to Strenuous- 6 miles- 1825 FT gain- It's Kay route from August 12th where her POD came off of what she called The Ridge of Views. For me, I call this point the Barren Ridge and explored this area when I was leading treks for my neighborhood hiking club, ACHE (Ardiente Club Hiking Enthusiasts). It's an interesting area given the terrain, closeness to Mack's Peak, and we may see wild horses down below the ridge as there's a lot of columbine in this area. Meet-up- Lower Bristlecone TH- (Use the ski lodge as your destination to figure your drive time.) We step off at 8 AM- Coordinator- David Gray
Friday thru Sunday, October 1st thru 3rd- Camping at Kanarraville- This is located NW of the Kolob section of Zion. We'll stay in the tent section of this campground. Tuesday, October 5th, Hidden Falls/Canyon Overlook to Pinnacle Peaks/Exploratory/Upper Kyle Canyon- Moderately Strenuous/Strenuous in sections with a total distance of some 7+ miles with a gain of 1800 FT estimated. Class II scrambling anticipated in rocky areas. This was canceled in August due the heat! Not expecting this this time. Follow-up trek from this summer located an established trail further up from the overlook which I named The Cliff Bridge. This ridgeline features several campsites areas and allows us to get further up "onto the mountain" below the South Loop Trail. Our goal is to get all the way across and up to an area of cliff faces and several tall pinnacles. And we'll also want to review a topo map of Mezzo Canyon that was provided by Cheryl Thomas as they did an exploratory in that area some time ago. It's all new and it's offers great views. Routing- Cathedral Rock Trail over to the manhole cover, then follow the game trail around the ridge, then make the climb up to the overlook next to cliffs that form Hidden Falls. Meet at the Cathedral Rock TH by 8 AM. Coordinator- David Gray-
